Gestational progress and delivery due dates are estimated based on Naegele's Rule, which assumes a standard gestation period of 280 days (40 weeks) from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). Since ovulation typically occurs in the middle of a 28-day menstrual cycle, our calculator adjusts for shorter or longer cycles by adding or subtracting the difference from the standard 28-day baseline.
Only about 4% of babies are born on their exact calculated due date. The window between 37 and 42 weeks is considered a full-term pregnancy, and births anywhere in this period are completely normal.
